Anonymous asked: Isn't Bambi a boy deer?

"……maybe…What’s it to you?"

Oh shit. He is, isn’t he?

Meera jolts awake, pulled back to reality by the vibrating of her phone. She’s surprised to find that Kaiden isn’t next to her, but even more surprised to find that she was standing, fully dressed.
last thing she remembered she’d been going to sleep with Kai. Fumbling, she took her phone out of her pocket, glancing at the messages with growing concern. Finally she exits out of the menu, dials the number under ‘Popsicle’ and waits.

“But what?” she demands, half annoyed that he thinks she can’t make it through a movie, and half cranky because she’s, well, tired. “We can watch a movie if you…” she trails off as a picture forms in her mind’s eye. A clear vision of a pillow against the arm of the couch and the quilt kicked against the corner opposite. Adding to the picture was her newly ‘modified’ computer on the side table with Jack’s permanently in-use coffee cup to the side.

“Right…” she sighs, forehead creasing. “Jack.” How long had he been there? Wasn’t it about time for him to return home? But the truth was, Meera didn’t want him to go. His mind was brilliant, he wasn’t a horrible guy, and his presence at the end of the com-link gave her confidence as she ran across rooftops. Not just self-confidence, but reassurance that if something happened to her, Kai would be alright. She didn’t want him to leave.

But it was time.

His smile falls at the demand in her voice, searching her face and finding annoyance. Kaiden’s eyes are wide and innocent, watching her. Wary. Her expression changes and Kaiden can feel his whole body relax. “Jack” he confirms. Kaiden steps forward hesitantly, taking her hand and squeezing it. “Come on, you’re tired and grumpy.” he smiles widely after a moment, leaning forward to kiss her cheek. “We can watch a movie some other time, I promise”

Meera leans into the kiss just to pull away in shock a moment later. “Ex-ca-use me,” she says in her best sassy voice. “Did you just say I’m ‘tired and grumpy?” she confirms, a bemused eyebrow raised. She leans in threateningly, slowly, and dramatically. Her eyes burn into his and she slides forward until their noses almost touch. She smiles softly then and pecks his top lip quickly. “Okay, okay. I guess you’re right. I’m am a little beat.” She grabs his hands and pulls him from his perch on the table as she hops off the counter onto the balls of her feet. The ice cream sat heavily in her stomach as she moved, somehow making her eyes heavier.

“Maybe. What’cha gonna do about it?” He raises an eyebrow at her for a moment before trying to keep the smile from his face. He failed miserably and started laughing, though was cut short when her ‘death glare’ became increasingly closer. He smiled once she’d kiss his lip. Kaiden’s pulled from where he had nestled himself, pulling her back to him once they were on the ground. A chaste kiss was given before moving towards the bedroom, pulling a groggy Meera behind him. They reached the bedroom and Kaiden shut the door behind them, he strips down and rummages through the drawers before finding his pajama pants. Pulling them on he turns back to Meera.”Perhaps we’ll talk to Jack tomorrow about houses?” he raises an eyebrow before crawling into bed, relaxing his body and sighing contently.

"You really wanna know?" she asks him, trying to sound alluring but failing miserably, slurring her words slightly with tiredness instead. Meera follows him to the bedroom, bumping into a chair first and then hitting her shoulder on the doorway. As he tows her into the room and shuts the door, she falls to the bed. Only as she sees him at the dresser does she realize she’s still dressed. Instead of getting up, she kicks off her jeans and tugs her shirt over her head, tossing them both to the hamper in the far corner and leaving her in her underwear and bra, laying atop the covers with a giant snowflake painted onto her stomach. Meera climbs under the sheets just in time for Popsicle to join, so she holds them up and situates them over both of their bodies. She smiles in response to his sigh, nestling herself between his arm and his bare torso.

"Right when we’re both awake," she agrees. "The sooner the better, I think….I’m a horrible procrastinator."

His eyes widens slightly as she scoffs but a smile spreads across his face when she assures him it’s good. He moves to sit next to her, he sees her shiver but doesn’t think nothing of it now, setting it down to the ice cream. confusion flickers across his eyes for only a moment, considering to refuse the offer, he could easily make his own, and Meera was eating for two… The teen moved from the chair to grab his own spoon, taking his place back and taking a half spoonful of everything. “Are you sure?” he asks her. Maybe one bite wont hurt. The spoon is slid into his mouth and the flavors hit him hard, yum! Kai brightens up considerably.

He’d only taking another spoonful when he placed the spoon down, smiling softly to Bambi. He knows it’s late and the both of them should probably be getting to bed after Bambi finishes, though the prospect of lying on the couch watching a Disney movie was tarnished by the fact that Jack was still camping out. Kaiden frowns, that couldn’t have been comfy at all for him. They’ll have to make sure Jack gets a bed at some point…

“Kaiden,” Meera chides softly at his hesitation to her offer. After leaning in for a chaste kiss to his cheek, her tongue flicks quickly to pick up the vanilla residue she leaves there. Returning her attention to the treat, she finishes it off in record timing, licking the bowl for good measure.

Kai’s face is distracted and so she slips up and drops the bowl and both spoons into the sink. It was still early, but she was already tired as per usual now. From behind as she walks back to the counter she ruffles his hair. “What’cha thinking about, Popsicle?” she asks, hoisting herself onto the counter and letting her legs dangle.

Kaiden is still half away in a day dream when he noticed the bowl and spoon had been taken away. “Meera” he chides back, throwing a playful smile over to her before moving from the chair, jumping on the table parallel to Meera, sitting on his hands as he kicked his feet out, his head cocked to the side. “I was thinking of watching a Disney movie but…” he trails off, though his smile remains.

“You look beat though, would you like to just go to bed?” It was often nowadays that Meera would be more tired than usual, not that it worried Kai, he knew fatigue was a symptom of pregnancy.

“But what?” she demands, half annoyed that he thinks she can’t make it through a movie, and half cranky because she’s, well, tired. “We can watch a movie if you…” she trails off as a picture forms in her mind’s eye. He has to laugh at her swiftness to grab the door, rolling his eyes he steps through the door. Giving her a swift kiss. “Thank you, Bambi” But like everything Kaiden says, it’s not just simply a ‘thank you’ He’s thanking her for everything. When he got here he was still that eight year old boy, scared of being touched by anyone because the only touch he’d known was violent. Wally had helped, and so had Dick and Roy but as Kaidens eyes found Bambi’s again, he knew it was ultimately her that’s helped him through it all, and to even want a family with him…It was more than Kaiden could ever imagine.

Once inside Kaiden lets her take the afghan, moving to place the paints and brushes in a cupboard. He stands from his crouch and moves to the freezer next to Meera. “I’ll tell you what. There’s something that I’ve seen in one of the ‘simple snacks that will blow your mind’ books that I liked the look of, we’l throw some of the flavours together, ‘kay?” he moves to grab a bowl and look for the large double chocolate chip cookies they had lying around, placing it in the bowl and placing it in the microwave, he put it  in for only seconds, but it would melt the chocolate chips inside the cookies and leave the cookie doughie and sweet. While it was in the microwave Kaiden reached around Bambi and took the vanilla and mint, placing them to the side to grab the bowl, placing it next to the vanilla as he put a scoop of each flavour on top of the cookie. The ice cream is returned and Kaiden looks through the cupboards till he finds what he’s looking for. Ah! syrup! It’s swirled over it and if he doesn’t say so himself he thinks it looks rather delicious. He looks from the bowl to Meera and his smile drops “Oh…right. You just wanted Ice-cream” his cheeks flush, having not known he’d gotten carried away “sorry”

Meera watches as Kaiden moves about the kitchen, hovering over his shoulder. She watches (with wide Bambi eyes) as he mixes ingredients together, like an edible piece of art. She enjoys watching people cook. It was  nearly mystical to see, especially since it was something she’d never been able to quite grasp herself. Wally did the same thing, made eloquent, like a sacrifice to be made to a god. She could only imagine how frustrating it would be to watch someone eat the dish you put so much effort into.

She falls into a stool at the counter and simply looks at the cookbook picture-worthy ice cream. She shakes herself out a bit. “Sorry?” she scoffs. “Don’t be sorry! Don’t you dare be sorry for ever giving me a melted cookie. Especially one with ice cream on top.” She plunges the spoon in, getting as equal amounts of everything as she can and stuffing it into her mouth. When her hands reopen, a shiver runs horizontally across her shoulders and melted ice cream slides down her throat. “Whoops, I forgot.” She offers him the spoon. “Want some, Popsicle?”

She purses her lips and racks her brain, begging it to remember the math she had worked out earlier. Meera’s pretty sure of the date of conception and she had twenty different online calculators tell her when the baby should be due.

“S-seventeen weeks,” she says with as much conviction as she can put into it. “…I think,” she adds quietly. Her eyes find his and her fingers curl around the fabric of his t-shirt desperately. That was farther than her last pregnancy made it, and though she knows this time around that her baby lives it still sends a shock through her frame and consciousness alike to think about it. Almost halfway through a pregnancy. She was supposed to start showing any day. And any day could’ve started a couple of weeks ago. She rested her hand over Kaiden’s where it rested on her stomach and squelched a small harmony of panicking voices in her head. There was nothing wrong with Ria or her, she simply hadn’t gotten a baby bump yet. That was normal, the websites and books and calls to her doctor had assured her that it was normal and that everything was fine. Her eyes shut again in the peace and quiet and her stomach let go another small hum.

“I think i’m hungry for…ice cream, I do believe. Do we have any?”

Kaiden can actually see the cogs working in her brain, searching for an answer. Perhaps they’d start buying things soon…though Meera as right in that would be pointless when they had no house. They’d have to talk to Jack…and soon.

“Seventeen weeks” he murmurs, his gaze further softening, his thumb rubbing small circles into her stomach and he notices she’s looking at him, glancing up his smile widens.  The grip at his t-shirt worries him, he knows what she’s thinking and he’s scared too. They’ve seen Ria, it just doesn’t make it easier when you’ve watched it. When you’ve watched the radiance and excitement of a Mother-to-be crumble beneath her feet…and to have it be your fault. Kaiden’s smile had fallen by then, but his eyes told her everything she needed to know. He was an open book for her now. He watches her desperation fade into worry as she checked her stomach. “It’s okay, I read that some people never show.” It was true, there was even cases of women not knowing she was pregnant till she was actually in labor. Kai half chuckles and opens his hand at her stomach, letting her fingers fall into the spaces, the silence came surprisingly sweetly, just them and baby Ria. Perhaps some cravings would be here soon? he knows there are women that often have very strange cravings. There’s an abrupt end to their silence and Kai glances over to meet her chocolatey eyes.

“Ice cream?” he raises an eyebrow, laughing as he sits up, taking her hands and pulling her up to her feet with him. Kaiden gives her a chaste kiss before collecting their things. The afghan and the paints  before heading to the buildings stairs with Meera. “Is there a specific flavor you want, Bambi?”

His words are comforting, but more than them is his voice. It’ll be okay, his eyes tell her that as his mouth forms the words. Swallowing, she rests her forehead against his chest. Of course it would be okay, as long as he was there to protect her and Ria. Don’t get her wrong, Meera’s no damsel in distress, but she can’t be on the front lines halfway through a pregnancy.

She stumbles to her feet, sort of dazed from the lack of light and having been laying for so long. Her shirt falls over her now-dry stomach and she bends to help pick up before realizing that Kaiden’s arms are already full of paint supplies and the blanket. Which was everything. She rolls her eyes, feeling more like a damsel every waking moment, but follows him to the stairwell and opens the door for them both before they’re five meters from it, just to make sure she gets it before he does. She waves him through and then shuts the door behind them.

“Uh…” she hesitates, trying to think. “I think just vanilla….Ooh! How about cookie dough? Or that mint kind, that’s kind of good.” They enter the apartment and she takes the afghan from him, putting it back in the closet. “They have that stuff with caramel swirled in too, right?” Meera’s making her way to the freezer by now to check their frozen treat stock. “Any kind’s good,” she amends, realized how silly she sounded. “Just…Ice cream, if we have it.”

He has to laugh at her swiftness to grab the door, rolling his eyes he steps through the door. Giving her a swift kiss. “Thank you, Bambi” But like everything Kaiden says, it’s not just simply a ‘thank you’ He’s thanking her for everything.
